Interior Designing Today

Furniture Transformations has come a long way from the tiny little shed we started in, where we just could not turn around with fear of knocking something over. As our little business grew, the small space we had to work in was just not big enough and this led to us to acquiring the shed next door as well and then the one next door to that, three in all.

It all seems so very long ago. Paddy was Transforming Furniture in this tiny space and I was quite ill working from home in my study, commuting back and forth to him for photo’s and his lunch. We were extremely lucky back then that we had the shed only five minutes from where we lived.

It was extremely hard for me back then, as I had been diagnosed with an illness that would be with me till the end of time for me and also what came with that illness would take me backwards for a while and not forwards. For someone who has worked every day since the age of 17, this was difficult to take. Not because I felt sorry for myself, but because I could not move around and exercise and create. This illness took everything away from me for a while and I could not see what the future was going to bring. I did have other matters going on so this kept my mind busy and active through the illness. Truly, things are meant to be the way they are at the time, no matter and sometimes we cannot see what is in front of us as it is not the right timing.

Circumstances changed and the area where our little sheds were was to be built on, so we moved to Biggera Waters, here on the Gold Coast in Queensland, to the large warehouse and office, half hour from home. This seemed like a palace compared to where we were previously. Well off we went Transforming this new area, making offices into rooms and setting up the showroom to house our Transformations. We started our Painting Workshops there and had plenty of room to do so. Unfortunately, rents were raised after a year so much so, we had to move on.

Our business is not about growing large or being wealthy, we had to find somewhere that was not as large and that met our needs for now and in a short space of time. We had to have a clear head and not go off track. Where we are now is really just a huge shed like what you see out in the country with the huge steel doors at the front. We do call it ‘the shed’ but it is our warehouse and studio and office and we are the happiest we have been, as it is cosy and homely and hopefully welcoming to everyone who walks through our door. We had to build an office inside this large shed and a tiny studio next to the office, the rest is warehouse. We cope with what we have and this is because we still have our passion to produce the best Transformations we can for our clients.

Slowly we are building up our Warehouse and Studio and we now have a second floor, thanks to a friend of ours who is a builder and we have now acquired stairs to get there!!!!! Hopefully at the end of this year or beginning of 2016 we can extend that floor a little bit more. Everything does take time and I am learning this still after all these years and to be happy with what I have – good health and meeting new people every week, who I can make happy. How did it take me this long to be this happy in life?

I sit up at night and my mind is always on the go because so many ideas come flooding in when it is quiet. I have said it many time before but I do love the peace and quiet of the middle of the night and into the wee hours of the morning. I can create and think and do so much more than I can in a day of busy busy busy. Why is it so that we need so much sleep, there isn’t time for that. I can hear you saying, oh dear how does she keep going. Well I really don’t know myself actually. Its a very good question but it doesn’t happen continually as after a while my body tells me to stop. I do seem to have this hunger for getting things done so I can start on the next project and want to share it with everyone. Its always so exciting. Sleep just doesn’t enter into it.

Furniture Transformations will keep on keeping on and we will do so for as long as we can. Churning out the different styles of Furniture Transformations our clients need. It certainly has changed in the last couple of years from Shabby being ever so popular to now most of our work being Hampton’s Style, very plain and straight lines all the way. We will go with the flow and whatever is asked of us we will produce. Transforming everything in our path along the way.
